Serbia’s Foreign Minister, Ivica Dačić, after meeting his Greek counterpart, stated in Athens that Serbia had made a mistake twenty years ago when they recognized Macedonia under its constitutional name.
“I believe that Serbia made a mistake twenty years ago when we recognized Skopje under the name Republic of Macedonia. It was not correct of us towards Greece, and Skopje has always had a negative attitude towards the issue of Kosovo and Metohija. They recognized Kosovo’s independence and voted for Kosovo’s accession into UNESCO”, said Dačić.
He added that Serbia will not make any moves which could impair the stability of the region and that “unlike” some other nations. Serbia has no territorial pretensions anywhere in Greece”.
Dačić said after the meeting, that the basic idea in the relations between Greece and Serbia is that they are “friends or brothers”.
At the beginning of the year, the Serbian Foreign Minister said in an interview for the agency “Beta” regarding Macedonia’s constitutional name and said that they been “foolish” to recognize Macedonia.
