CEMM: The state mustn’t interfere in the media self-regulation

-

The Council of Media Ethics of Macedonia (CEMM) announced today that no government or a political party must make decisions in the name of the media as a reaction to the announced changes in the Law for audio and audiovisual media services.

According to CEMM, any kind of influence from the state over the process of self-regulation in the media must be eliminated.

“Placing any kind of obstacles on part of the Government on that journey and the marginalization of the Council’s work will result in decreasing of media’s responsibility and a support will be given to censorship and self-censorship,” said the press release.

CEMM stressed that the self-regulation excludes any kind of placement of professional journalism standards within a legal framework and introduction of sanctions towards the media for their disobedience.
