Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov ordered the Ministry of Interior and the state agency “National Security” to check all of the Bulgarian personal documents that were issued to foreigners in the last 5 years. According to Bulgarian media, in the last 15 years, almost 90.000 people were granted Bulgarian passports.
As Bulgarian media report, Borisov has asked for the results of the revision to be sent to him as quick as possible.
Borisov’s request follows when in the previous month the Bulgarian Public Prosecution announced that it has discovered frauds during the process of issuing Bulgarian passports to foreign citizens that involved the State Agency for the Bulgarians that live abroad, and during this investigation, its director and the agency employees were arrested.
