Both sides optimistic over name dispute, while conversation between Zaev and Tsipras is expected

-

Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov and the entire composition of the Government are on the same, single line and are firmly determined and committed to resolving the dispute and strengthening the dignity and identity of the citizens, said spokesman Mile Bosnjakovski responding to speculations that arose over the weekend claiming that the name negotiations with Greece had failed.

Minister of State and Government spokesperson, Dimitris Tzanakopoulos expressed optimism, saying that the Macedonian prime minister will make a “decisive step” and an agreement will be reached.

“The negotiations and the political decision to resolve the name dispute are not easy. Mr. Zaev should consider all aspects and take the huge responsibility for his fellow citizens, something I am sure he will do. If some of FYROM’s political leadership wants to undermine the opportunity of finding a solution, it is not something I am familiar with. However, I am optimistic that in the end, Mr. Zaev will make the decisive step and we will be able to reach an agreement”, said Tzanakopoulos.

He added that both Zaev and Tsipras know that the solution is “a necessary precondition for the future of solidarity and cooperation in the Balkans”.

Neither side would confirm the information that the two prime ministers are expected to talk over the telephone today.
