Bosnjakovski: Germany is not actively involved in the name negotiations

-

Germany is not actively involved in the name talks that are being held between Macedonia and Greece under the auspices of the United Nations and mediator Matthew Nimetz, said government spokesman, Mile Bosnjakovski in response to a journalist’s question at today’s press conference.

“Today’s meeting between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Prime Minister Zoran Zaev is bilateral, where they will discuss various issues as well as economic issues. Of course, certain friends of Macedonia and Greece have their own views on certain issues, but I have to say that they will not participate in the negotiations”, said Bosnjakovski.

When asked from where Zaev drew such optimism that the solution to the name dispute is possible by July this year, Bosnjakovski said that the issue is public knowledge and transparent and that there is a reason to be optimistic.

“We had a meeting between the two prime ministers; we have opened certain closed issues that were not discussed for 15 years. We have had intense contact between the foreign ministers, so the talks themselves are a good indicator that there is optimism regardless of the information coming from different parties, however, official negotiations are quite another thing”, added Bosnjakovski.
