Bekteshi: Macedonia will establish joint customs control with Albania

-

Today, Economy Minister Kreshnik Bekteshi said that Macedonia will establish a “one stop shop” for joint border control with Albania, and its goal is to increase trade cooperation between the two countries.

“Macedonia is fully committed to increasing cooperation with countries in the region, establishing a common economic zone, which will increase competitiveness for our companies,” said Bekteshi before the public debate in the Economic Chamber of Macedonia regarding the benefits of the Macedonian economy from membership in NATO and the EU.

He added that the goal of this project is to facilitate the free trade of goods, improve joint risk management, and as much trade as possible between the two countries.

The introduction of joint customs controls, between Macedonia and Albania as signatories to the International Convention on the Simplification and Harmonization of Customs Procedures, is part of the action plan for the creation of a regional economic area in the Western Balkans, adopted during the EU Summit with the Western Balkan countries held in Trieste 2017.
