Baily: Ivanov and Parliament to move forward the process of forming a government

-

“We urge the President to move forward with the process. It is also important that Parliament moves forward, and that begins with a new Speaker of Parliament being voted in by the new members of Parliament.” This was said today by the US Ambassador to Macedonia, Jess Baily, when he replied to a question by a journalist regarding the celebration of the Day of NATO in Skopje i.e. The 68th anniversary of the founding of the Alliance.

The American Ambassador stressed that whether the country will go forward will depend on the political leaders.

He didn’t want to speculate on what the international community’s next steps will be if the political processes in the country remains blocked and a government isn’t formed any time soon.

“To not move forward means delays, it means decisions not taken, maybe projects not done and in the end, it will be up to the citizens to decide whether they want their Parliament and political leaders to do”, said Baily.

When asked to comment on the statements of the Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and other high-ranking officials regarding Macedonia, Baily said that US remains firm that the neighbours should show restraint.

“As I said few weeks ago, we urge regional neighbors to exercise restraint and to allow Macedonia to go forward with its process. It is obviously a sensitive situation. The United States uses the word Republic of Macedonia and we recognize the Macedonian identity”, said Baily.
