Albanian Government has agreed to adopt special laws on minority groups

-

The Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized a meeting with representatives of minority groups in Albania to improve its legislation on minorities by developing a law that the Albanian government agreed to bring at the request of the European Union.

With it, the recognition of the Macedonian and other minorities throughout the territory of Albania should be regulated, and be provided with education in Macedonian where ethnic Macedonians live.

“The law should provide guaranteed seats in Parliament for minorities, with equal representation in local, central government and in public administration, a special fund for the development and protection of the Macedonian culture and tradition, a special budget for the development of areas inhabited by Macedonians in Albania as well as reorganization of the state Committee of minorities, and the regulation of other issues related to the rights of minorities”, says the Secretary General of the Macedonian Alliance for European integration Vasil Sterjoski.

Several years ago, the Macedonian and other minority groups in Albania sought to adopt such laws.
