Albania condemns hate speech in Bitola and demand an investigation

-

The Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania today condemned the hate speech against Albanians which was drawn on concrete walls in a public space in Bitola and urged the Macedonian authorities to investigate the case.

It is about the facade of a building in Bitola, and on the wall, it says, “Death to Shiptars”, written in Macedonian and in Albanian, with the addition “The law is law” alluding to the Law on the Use of Languages.    grafit Bitola

“The Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania expresses regret and condemns the hate speech towards the Albanians expressed in articles in public spaces in Bitola. It is not the first time Bitola, the historic city of the congress of the Albanian language, have had incidents deliberately and unacceptably designed to cause hatred, disruption and tension between communities”, read the statement from the Albanian Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs.

The ministry has asked the Macedonian authorities to investigate the case and discover the perpetrators of this act, who, they say, “are in opposition of the spirit of coexistence and harmony in Macedonia and the region.”
